HOW TO MAINTAIN GOOD ORAL HEALTH?

WHY IS YOUR ORAL HEALTH IMPORTANT?

The oral cavity consists of teeth, gums, tongue and the mouth. You might question why is oral health so important? Teeth perform some real vital functions for you. Whether they are molars which help to grind the food into small pieces or the front incisors which help you to tear and cut, teeth have a fundamental role to play in the human body. They help you to talk and pronounce the words clearly and finally, teeth are responsible for shaping your face. A healthy smile is a great asset. In view of these facts, our teeth deserve the best possible care.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU DON’T TAKE CARE OF YOUR TEETH?

Healthy teeth and gums ultimately keep your whole body healthy. If you don’t care for your teeth, decay and plaque will soon attack them leading to tooth decay. Tooth decay damages the nerve in the root of the tooth causing pain and agony. Besides decay, swollen and bleeding gums can occur if teeth are not properly brushed. In some cases, severe gum diseases can lead to the dropping of teeth which then have to be replaced by implanting teeth.

WHAT IS PLAQUE AND HOW CAN IT CAUSE GUM DISEASE:

Plaque is the sticky yellow layer which covers your teeth over the time if you do not clean them properly and regularly. When you eat foods, the small particles of food get trapped in the little gaps between the teeth.  These tiny food particles are acted upon by bacteria present in your oral cavity which produce acids. These acids lead to the formation of holes called cavities. If this plaque layer is not removed by brushing it can harden into a thick sticky layer called “tartar”. The gums become infected and gradually the bones under them weaken.

 HOW CAN YOU PREVENT GUM DISEASE?

The best way to keep your teeth for lifetime is to clean them properly and regularly. It is important to brush to prevent plaque formation. Moreover, you should visit your dentist regularly for maintaining a complete oral health.

WHY IS BRUSHING IMPORTANT?

Brushing is an important tool towards a fit oral health. You should make it your habit to brush every night before going to bed and at least once in the day with a good fluoride toothpaste. Mouthwashes can also be used to freshen up your breath.

Only you are responsible for your oral health. Brush regularly at least two minutes with a medium sized tooth brush. As well as, change your brush every 3 months and visit your dentist often.
